Kosovo

BFMI is concerned by the threat that weak regulation, the allocation of public funds and ethnic divisions pose to media freedom in Kosovo. While independent media exists in the country, critical reporting of politicians is often met with attacks against media outlets. Journalists are increasingly targeted by SLAPPs and face physical attacks.

The ethnic divisions of Kosovo can be seen in its media environment, with the ethnic-Serb and ethnic-Albanian information space facing divisive narratives. Pro-Kremlin disinformation, often propagated by the government-aligned media in Serbia, reaches the Serb-majority areas and fosters ethnic conflict.
