About Us
The Balkan Free Media Initiative (BFMI) is an international media watchdog dedicated to safeguarding media freedom and promoting independent journalism across Southeastern Europe.
We are looking for a Research and Communications Manager to lead in-depth analysis, develop impactful policy proposals, and craft compelling narratives that engage key stakeholders and institutions.

Key Responsibilities
â Research & Analysis
Identify key research priorities based on political, regulatory, and media landscape shifts.
Engage with BFMIâs Advisory Board and external experts to refine research focus.
Commission, oversee, and conduct research on media freedom, regulatory frameworks, and disinformation trends.
Analyze research findings and translate them into policy proposals, advocacy materials, and strategic insights.
Develop high-quality reports that provide actionable recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders.
â Communications & Advocacy
âCraft compelling narratives that effectively communicate research findings to diverse audiences.
Oversee the publication process for reports, ensuring clarity and impact.
Develop strategic messaging for media, policymakers, and public engagement.
Draft and distribute press releases, articles, and op-eds to highlight key findings.
â Utilize social media strategically to amplify research impact and engage key audiences.
â Stakeholder Engagement & Public Events
Plan and manage public events, panel discussions, and high-level meetings to promote BFMIâs work.
â Engage with policymakers, media professionals, and institutions to influence public discourse and policy development.
Monitor media and political trends in the EU and Southeastern Europe to anticipate and respond to key developments.
Refine and iterateâcontinuously improving BFMIâs research and communication strategies for maximum effectiveness.
Key Qualifications
Proven experience in research, policy analysis, or strategic communications, with a strong ability to synthesize complex information.
Strong background in media studies, political science, international relations, or EU policy.
Outstanding writing and analytical skills, with experience in developing reports and policy briefings.
Deep understanding of EU policymaking and institutions; familiarity with Southeastern European media and political landscapes is a plus.
Strong networking skills and established relationships within media and policy sectors.
Passion for media freedom, with a track record of driving impactful projects.
A collaborative mindset, capable of working effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
