Bosnia and Herzegovina
Since 2022, media freedom in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been in decline. An unfavourable political and economic environment has more recently been accompanied by restrictive legislative efforts. Divisions between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska have led to a divided national media landscape, marked by ethnic tension, disinformation and inflamatory narratives
BFMI is particularly concerned over the increased political interference in the media within the Republika Srpska. Pro-Serb disinformation spreads easily through social media and consolidates the government’s control over public information, inciting anti-EU sentiment.
