Former European Commissioner for Consumer Protection and EU Ambassador to the Council of Europe
Dr. Meglena Kuneva is a seasoned politician, diplomat and EU policymaker. A Bulgarian national, Kuneva was Minister of European Affairs and Chief Negotiator with the EU for the accession of Bulgaria to the EU from 2001 to 2007. She was then appointed the countryโs first ever EU Commissioner, where she was responsible for the portfolio on consumer protection.
She later served as Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria for European Policies Coordination and Institutional Affairs (2014-2017). She was appointed EU to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 2017, serving until August 2022.
